Obligatory reminder: the forum is where all the real, interesting debate concerning FreeCAD happens. He doesn't want to "take over", or anything like that.

Properties of one object can drive the value of. All shape changes are recalculated on demand, recorded by an undo/redo stack, and allow to maintain a precise modelling history. He's often asked for advice and opinions by others in the community. All FreeCAD objects are natively parametric, meaning their shape can be based on properties such as numeric values, texts, on/off buttons, or even other objects. Nevertheless he does participate in discussions on the forum and everything seems quite amicable. I don't know who "Realthunder" is but he (I assume he's a he) appears to be quite brilliant, but a soloist. Many of these ideas have a good chance to find their way into the main FreeCAD branch while the big ones would require so much adaptations in the code base (which might break things) that at best it will take some time. Some quite fundamental, others just cosmetic. You can change the default workbench in the preferences. Here is what it looks like for version 0.19: The Start page allows you to quickly jump to one of the most common workbenches, open one of the recent files, or see the latest news from the FreeCAD world.
Freecad getting started full#
I think it's best to think of Realthunder's branch as a testbed, full of experimental features based on the ideas of the developer. When you start FreeCAD for the first time, you are presented with the Start page. What is LinkStage3 with respect to the main FreeCAD project? Same question about Realthunder and his role in the community.
